Wow, you are almost ready to "graduate!!" Actually, you are going to have to wait just a little longer for that. Jesus is the one who will ultimately be handing out your real diploma. I'm sure it will be a great day, but personally, I am not quite ready for that graduation yet. Lol.
OUR GOAL for you who have completed the ten sessions has been to fit you with a new set of spiritual "eyeglasses" to help you more accurately view God's world and your role in it. I also hope we've added some items to put in your "Kingdom suitcase" as you continue on your journey. And as you are about to find out, you're not quite done with your packing just yet.
In this session, I am continuing the "Reporting In" theme from Session 9 on your need as a Christian student (which includes all of us older lifelong learners) to spend time developing a Christian worldview, as well as a Christian perspective for your major, your career, and your life. Do you have a few mentors who are guiding you in this effort? If not, they are out there and would love to serve you. I'll be happy to suggest a few if you don't know any.
Your last assignment is an opportunity to "attend" a last session of the 2020 Jubilee Conference. Unfortunately, you are missing some great worship that is always a big part of the conference too, but your time will be well spent with David Kinnaman, an author of several books, and the President of the Barna Group, a Christian research company working all over the world.
You will hear him mention how important the Jubilee Conference is to him. Despite his wife's cancer returning and their realization that it was terminal, he still came to speak to us. He even brought his 14-year-old son. (His wife passed away eight months later).
1) REPORTING IN for Non-University students. Just answer these two questions, in the form below.
Congratulations and thank you. Hopefully, you've already begun to put some of this into practice. But suppose you really want these themes to become part of your DNA, in that case it is crucial that you find an accountability partner, or become part of a small missional community where these ideas are being lived out consistently. Otherwise, there won't be much sustained change in your life. This brings me to my other small surprise.
You've probably noticed that I am paying the university students when they complete this. Well, if you live within 90 minutes of Waynesburg, PA, Shirley and I, or Dave and Jen will be happy to take you and a guest to dinner to say "Thank You" properly for completing it, and to solicit your feedback. I hope you felt that your 5-6 hours were spent wisely. If it took more time, we'd appreciate hearing about hatt as well.
2) REPORTING IN for University Students: Fill out the section below to email Chuck.
CONGRATULATIONS!! If I were just a little more famous, you University students could put this accomplishment on your resumé. I'll work on that.
University Students (for extra credit later): Consider writing one of your papers from a Christian perspective. We'll help you locate some well-written articles or good books to help you. Also, the University library staff members, Rae Redd and John Thompson, would be happy to help too.
A LITTLE FOOTNOTE: Rae Redd was Chuck and Shirley's RA in Martin Hall, and he later joined CCO.
Finally, why don't you tell us how we should celebrate your achievement properly? Where would you want to go and grab a meal to discuss which parts of this exercise were most valuable to you? Bring a friend along and we will buy. Maybe we can recruit them to be next.
And it seems to me there was one more item I am forgetting at the moment. Oh yeah, the $125 scholarship!! Or some of you might just really need the cash. Let's find a time to meet.
